Altar Guild
Who is involved with the Altar Guild at St. John’s? What do they do?
Members of St John’s Altar Guild are men and women who work in the sacristy to prepare the elements to be used in the Eucharistic service (bread, wine/grape juice, water, napkins, chalice, etc.). They attend to the candles, replacing them as needed; make sure the consecrated elements are in place in the tabernacle when needed; fill the Eucharist kits for the Eucharistic Ministers. They prayerfully and properly clean all Eucharistic vessels, paying special attention to how items are handled, cleaned, and remains of consecrated elements are disposed of. All of the work of the Altar Guild is done in a spirit of reverence and prayerfulness.

The Altar Guild welcomes those who feel called to participate in this important aspect of worship ministry. Prayer Shawl Ministry
This ministry knits shawls and makes fleece blankets for single mothers and the homeless of the school district. At the end of 2013, the knitters of the Prayer Shawl Ministry had completed 122 prayer shawls along with a number of fleece blankets. We generally meet once a month and would welcome anyone to the group. Knitting a prayer shawl is basically praying with your fingers. Come join us.
Acolyte Program
The position of acolyte is an honor in the Episcopal Church. It is one of the historical orders of ministry (as being distinct from the major orders of bishop, priest and deacon and not in an ordained status; though in very early times one passed through the minor orders on way to the major orders). The acolytes assist Father Hoover in making our worship beautiful and orderly. If you are a baptized member in good standing and interested in serving as an acolyte, please contact Fr. Hoover.
Daughters of the King: Mother Teresa Chapter
The Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. Members undertake a Rule of Life incorporating the Rule of Prayers and the Rule of Service. A Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom. We would welcome women who would like to join us.
